Sound Decoder Install in P2K DL109

The DL109 is an Alco powered locomotive. There are 2 possible decoders that will fit in this unit. This is the AT/KD100LC. Just remove the original light board and replace with this board. The diagram that comes with the decoder explains all the connections. It is held in place with 2mm thick double sided tape.
The decoder I used was the DSD101LC. This will ftt just as well as the AT100. It is also held in place with double sided tape. The 101LC differs from the 100LC in that it has engine start-up when the loco is selected and shut down when it times out (CV11)
This shows the decoder connected to the wires in the loco.
The TDS medium speaker is a perfect fit as shown here. I built a speaker enclosure from 1mm styrene. You can purchase an enclosure if you wish.
This shows the speaker and its enclosure in place. I have not added the top cover to the enclosure in this photo - that will be next. I replaced the headlight globe with a 3mm Golden White. The blue and white wires go to the LED. I also used a 1k resistor for this LED.

The sound is set to 128 (50%) - this is plenty loud enough. I have also set the top speed to 35mph so it will match all the other locos on the owner's layout and can be consisted as required.
