Division Eight Superintendent, NMRA Australasian RegionI was introduced to the hobby of model railroading when my parents purchased a Triang 00 scale trainset for my 12th birthday. I played with my trainset for 3 years before it was sold as part of change in scale. When I joined the RAAf in 1968 I lost interest in model trains as I moved around Australia and overseas and started a family.
While on a task to the USA in 1981 I purchased a trainset as a Christmas present for my children. This rekindled my interest in model trains as I built and pulled down a number of layouts as I moved due to work commitments for the next 30 plus years.
In 1995 I joined the ACT Model Railroad Society and served on their committee. I was also active in the construction and exhibiting of the club's award winning layout Twelfth Street Yard before another interstate move due to work. In 2004 I attended a meeting at Ron Solly's where Division 6 of the NMRA was reborn. From this meeting I became a member of the NMRA taking over the role of Division Superintended for 2 years before yet another interstate work move in 2010.
In late 2012 I took a voluntary redundancy from DMO and retired to the Coffs Coast and joined the Coffs Harbour Railroad Modellers (CHRM), taking over the role of Divisional Superintendent in 2015. In retirement I have been active in promoting the hobby and NMRA through my small interactive switching layout. My dream home layout is still just a dream as my dedicated train room is currently occupied by the interactive switching layout and another partially completed modular layout.
